Regard de l’etoile
Piano Quintet
Keywords: Carving sonic fossils
Regard de l’étoile unfolds like a Robert Irwin painting: shifting layers of sound bring points of focus into view.
Drawn from Vingt regards sur l’enfant Jésus, fragments of the thème de l’étoile and thème de la croix surface, dissolve, and re-emerge within a dense contrapuntal field. Rather than presenting themes outright, the music reveals how texture itself can make them audible. I shaped new forms from inherited material, like a sculpture carved from sonic fossils.
