The Sound Barrier
Listen to this two-hour broadcast of my music, curated and presented by Ian Parsons for PBS’s The Sound Barrier. Ten works unfold across twenty years of my creative life.
Ian shapes the broadcast into an intense and magical listening journey. Its arc pulses and sways – from deep, cavernous depths to shrieking peaks, punctuated by airy, pointed exhales and expansive inhales. Pointillistic specks give way to sumptuous explosions; lines emerge and hang suspended.
With Ian as guide, no piece exists in isolation. Together, they belong to a single, living mind – my own! He hears hope, danger, and elegance, and reminds me that I once felt no need for an orchestra when I had an accordion.
