When Apathy is Betrayal

This 1-hour piece is an appeal for equity and inclusivity. The assumption made for this piece is that apathy is an emotion relevant to our current century. This piece fights with the frustration as to why we disconnect from the plight of others. In my lifetime, the most apathy I have seen has been towards refugees – those seeking a safer home. The message behind this 1-hour piece is an appeal for equity and inclusivity.

The sample you hear is from the beginning. The percussionists zoom-in to the sound of a ‘war zone’. But listen to the people – you’ll hear the fleeing footsteps. The soprano joins in a very tender moment – ‘hörst du den Schrei’ – do you hear the cry – civilians hear another sound to war. Their perspective is the loss of friends and loved ones. It is a cry that screams in its tenderness because civilians are dying as they hear the aggression of the bombs. War needs to hear their side as well.
